National Gallery Trip

Whilst I was at the gallery these two paintings caught my eye. I loved the comforting feeling that the courtyard painting gave me. Whilst walking around the gallery I did very quick sketches of the paintings that most interested me and focused on the foundations and compositions of the paintings rather than the little details. I found the painting of the woman intriguing because when i first saw the painting I assumed she was with a man who was laying his head down however after reading the description, I found out she was holding a decapitated head on a platter. I was interested in the innocent facade that the painting first portrays and then the unsettling reality of the actual situation.
